Hi! I’m Shirley! I was born and raised on the sunny island of Malta, a tiny spot in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. I enjoy reading all kinds of books, mainly fiction, as well as writing short stories. My favourite pastimes include camping in the midst of nature, al fresco dining with a nice bottle of wine, long days on sandy beaches, and swimming in our blue seas. Travelling is also my passion.
Writing is something that comes very naturally to me. I am also particularly capable of detecting errors in written text, whether I am reading a book, document, menu, or advert. I have always been open to helping others, and I am very focused on detail and organisation. My previous job as a flight attendant taught me how to give quality service in a fast-paced environment, find practical solutions to tackle any problems that cropped up inflight, and create a satisfactory experience for my clients from take-off to landing.
Therefore, please allow me to be of service to you and proofread your written work, and I will ensure that your publication will arrive at its intended destination fully corrected. I am also pleased to offer you my services as a writer and transcriber.
Thank you and welcome aboard!
For over 24 years, since 1994, I flew as cabin crew with our national airline. This career gave me the opportunity to travel, meet people, be of service to them, and ensure that they arrived at their destinations safely. But the time came for me to make a change. After taking a few months’ break off work, I wanted to explore the idea of working from home, as I like the freedom of setting my own routines, and working in peace and quiet.
From a very young age, I would get completely lost in my books. My fertile imagination led to the writing of many colourful essays and short stories, which continued throughout my life. This eventually led to me fulfilling my lifelong dream of publishing a book in October 2020. This collection of short stories, Flowing From The Ebb: A Short Story Collection About The Tides Of Life, is available in Kindle and paperback format on all Amazon Marketplaces.
Over the years, I observed that I would frequently zero in on mistakes in written text of all types, even in my own work. It was only natural therefore to follow on to the next step of my new career, to assist others by offering proofreading services, as well as content writing and audio transcription.
Some errors will always slip past you, no matter how many times you read the text. This happens because when you read your own work, you are reading it from memory. This can often lead you to overlook mistakes. And that is why you need an independent proofreader to find them all!
I have often used my proficiency in the written word to check and edit a number of documents and theses for others. I have also written various articles and short stories. I am adept at working flexible hours, and I am very organised and dependable by nature. Furthermore, I completed two online courses offered by Universal Class, an accredited provider of the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). One of these courses was in Proofreading and Copyediting, with a final score of 98%. The other course was in Freelance Writing, with a final score of 100%.
